On February 7th we are hosting a concert to raise funds for the Ramsey Foodbank with all involved giving their services for free.

The Artists:

Steve Brown is an accomplished guitarist and singer who describes his repertoire as "old stuff you'll know", including numbers by John Prine, James Taylor, Paul Simon, CSN&Y and up and coming band the Beatles.

Evie Mitcheson, in her relatively short career, has been wowing audiences across Cambridgeshire with her astonishing vocals and an on-stage maturity that belies her years. Evie will feature songs by Dylan, the Clash and beyond - stuff you'll come to know (and love).

Steve and Evie will each play an individual set and come together for the finale.

The evening will also feature a UVHPA favourite - the raffle, please bring cash or card to purchase raffle tickets.

About the Foodbank Network

The Trussell Trust supports communities and churches to open foodbanks across the UK.

The Ramsey Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of 428 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK.

The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.

All proceeds from this show will go to the Ramsey Foodbank.

Mon 16th Mar    DaoirÍ Farell

Daoirí Farrell is a product of Dublin’s famous club An Góilin Traditional Singers. Since launching his own solo live career at the 2016 Celtic Connections, Daoirí Farrell has gone from strength to strength.

The 2013 All Ireland Champion Singer has achieved numerous other honours from multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards nominations to ALSR Celtic Music accolades.

He has received endorsements from the likes of Christy Moore (“Daoirí has assumed the mantle of Luke [Kelly]”), Mark Radcliffe (“What a voice”) and Dónal Lunny (“Daoirí is one of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade”).

His music and live performances have earned the acclaim of respected publications including MOJO, The Irish Post, Songlines and more.

Mishra is an acclaimed UK global folk band known for blending traditional British folk with Indian classical music, featuring stunning vocals by Kate Griffin (banjo) and driving rhythms from Ford Collier (low whistle, guitar) and John Ball (tabla, santoor), with jazz double bassist Joss Mann-Hazell and contemporary Western classical clarinettist Alex Lyon,

Creating joyous, cross-continental music with performances ranging from intimate duo sets to larger ensembles, they have gained international attention for their unique Indo-folk sound, winning the Cambridge Folk Festival's Christian Raphael Prize and earning praise for albums like The Loft Tapes, showcasing their rich textures and energetic live shows.

Sat 16th May    Richard Durrant

The Art of Levitation

A wonderful live music event for acoustic and classical guitar lovers and the musically curious.  Featuring Richard’s original, haunting guitar music including his newly released track, The Art of Levitation.

Indie-classical composer & concert guitarist Richard Durrant will also play music from the High Baroque, the English Baroque and (in a fascinating homage to John Renbourn, Bert Jansch & Martin Carthy) the English Folk Baroque.

Durrant’s intriguingly unpretentious style of delivery should not belie the emotional depth of his music; witness the onstage persona of an informative, friendly stand-up and the playing of one of the world’s most inventive, guitar virtuosos.

Ninebarrow (Jon Whitley and Jay LaBouchardiere) are a multi-award-winning folk duo, who are impressing audiences across the country with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition. Described by Mark Radcliffe as sounding ‘like two halves of one voice’ and by Mercury Music Prize nominee Kate Rusby as ‘absolutely amazing’, Jon and Jay combine breath taking vocal harmonies and melodies, delivering original songs that are inspired and rooted in the landscape and history of the British Isles.

As well as crafting unique and engaging original material, Ninebarrow also take a wide-range of traditional folk songs and rework them in their own, distinctive way.

Back by overwhelming demand after their last Upwood show sold out in days, Chris While and Julie Matthews have been one of the leading forces in the Britsh singer/songwriter scene for over 30 years.

They have played more than 3,000 gigs, appeared on over 100 albums, written hundreds of original songs and reached millions of people around the world. Now, 30 years after their debut, they sound as fresh and vital as ever.

They are two of the best and most hard working musicians on the world folk roots scene, both are highly regarded producers and they record everything that they are involved in at their own studio in a small Pennine town far from the Londoncentric music industry. They truly are inspirational women.

Chris While (vocals, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, bodhran and percussion) and Julie Matthews (vocals, piano, guitar, mandolin and bouzouki) are renowned for their seamless harmonies and affinity for each other on stage, they are stunning singers, songwriters, musicians, producers and arrangers and performers whose energy and commitment to their craft and their audience is boundless.

Their last show in Upwood in 2024 sold out and left many people asking for their return.

Four times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards Megson, aka Stu & Debbie Hanna, draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create a truly unique brand of folk music.

The husband & wife duo bring an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars. Comprising Debs Hanna (Vocals, Whistle, Piano Accordion) and Stu Hanna (Guitar, Mandola, Banjo) Megson have gained fame on the British folk scene, not only for their arresting & intelligent songwriting, but for their exquisite musicianship and northern humour.

Liking to keep busy, MEGSON have recorded thirteen studio albums across their career gaining four & five star reviews from THE GUARDIAN, MOJO, THE TELEGRAPH, UNCUT, THE FINANCIAL TIMES whilst THE OBSERVER pronounced them ‘A force in the folk revival’.

Sun 13th Dec    Sykes & Causley Mid-winter Tour

Join Miranda & Jim in celebrating the festive season with some gorgeous West Country carols, medieval and secular carols from around the British Isles, moving settings of Christmas poems by Cornish poet Charles Causley as well a choice selection of seasonal songs by contemporary songwriters on the UK folk scene.

All delivered by two of Britain’s best-loved voices, accompanied on a variety of instruments and “gurt dollop” of festive fun!

If you are feeling a little dismayed with the over-commercialisation of “Christmas present” then join Miranda & Jim for a journey through Christmas past that will be guaranteed to get you in the festive spirit!
